Question by No.4 Mk1(t): Dif. between Tractor and Sleeper?
I see it advertised all the time, for instance a Kenworth T900 goin for about 0k, good shape say an ‘05. What is the dif between the ones advertised as “sleeper”s and the “tractor”s? Tranny? Running gear in any way? The sleeper’s…comfort level? I can’t figure it out. A 9 speed vs. a 13 speed doesn’t seem like a big enough difference, KW wouldn’t put different (aka weaker) running gears in a commercial road machine, that’s just cheap…so… =/ I dunno. My favorite truck’s a ‘53 International R-180 (military tires “tight-spot” dumptruck), I’m not that well versed in modern big rigs.

Tractor is just that, just another word for semi.As far as the sleeper you have sleeper trucks and daycabs, daycabs have no sleepers on them. The tranny depends on what rearend gears are in the differential. Normally the more gears you have the less RPM,s the motor will turn going down the road in high gear. And the more gears you have the easier it is to get up to road speed when you are hauling overweight or oversize loads.Hopefully this might help a little.
