I just bought a set of tire chain for my Lexus ES300 from Kragen. But when I get home, I realize there are only two tire chains instead of four that I expected. I guess I should put these onto the front tires since my car is Front-wheel drive.
1) Do I have to get a second pair of tire chains for the wheels at the rear?
2) Under what condition should I put the tire chains on?
3) On the highway condition website, it says “DRIVERS MUST HAVE MAXIMUM CHAINS IN THEIR POSSESSION IN ORDER TO PROCEED” What does the “Maximum chains” mean?

1) you do not need a second set of chains/cables unless you have 4WD and can not disengage the system.
2) You will be instructed via signage and personnel on teh roadsizes of when to chain up. You will chain the drive wheels. so on your lexus, you will chain the front wheels.
3) It means essentially you must have the best chains for your car.
what you have from kragen is fine. the sign is moreso for big rigs.
By law if you drive into an area which requires chains, you must have them with you. if you don’t you can be turned around, stopped until things clear, ticketed or forced to the side of the road to where they’re selling chains at 4x the price you paid.
Even if it’s a hot sunny day, and they’re out there, they can do a chain check to make sure you have them.
